Fresh organic design
Good for your baby. Good for Mother earth
  About

At Satsuma Designs we love babies! It's why we do what we do. Every design in our collection, business decision, daily detail and inspiration comes from our mission to create cozy, all natural and useful products for little ones.

We started the business to serve moms, dads, care givers and others searching for eco-friendly, yet elegant and practical gifts for babies. We leaped at the opportunity to connect our evolving sensitivity to a greener lifestyle not only for our own family, but every family. That's why Satsuma Designs was born.

As parents and consumers, we're guided by a desire to make smart, healthy, and affordable products and lifestyle decisions consistent with environmental stewardship. Our collection is designed and made in Seattle, Washington by a dedicated team of people who take care with every cut and stitch knowing that what we make will one day comfort a baby.

And every order does a little more. Satsuma Designs supports the work of St. Joseph's Baby Corner in Seattle where they provide essential care to babies in need and are "changing the world one diaper at a time."

About our materials

At Satsuma Designs we create our products from all natural fibers that treat baby and the environment with a soft touch. Our collection of products is all natural in content, color and our commitment to our customer. We use an assortment of natural materials that include bamboo, organic cotton and more.

Organically Grown and Harvested Bamboo

Bamboo is a sustainable and organically grown resource. At Satsuma Designs we work with suppliers who operate with the most environmentally friendly production practices. Discover our naturally antibacterial products spun from bamboo. Viscose from bamboo is fashioned from all natural materials, our blankets and accessories drape like silk and wash like cotton.

Sustainable Resource

  • Bamboo is grown without pesticides.
  • It’s a renewable resource that retains and maintains soil health.
  • Bamboo grows to maturity in 2-3 years.

Closed loop production methods

The fabrics we use in our products are manufactured using the most innovative closed loop production systems that preserve the integrity of the fabric and protect the environment in which they’re produced.

Comfortable and Clean

  • Our bamboo has an incredible soft “hand”. Whether choosing a silky jersey, plush velour or cozy terry or fleece, Satsuma Designs’ bamboo will comfort again and again.
  • Bamboo is naturally antibacterial. Its intrinsic properties fend off microbes in the wild and third party tests of our fabric have shown the same.
  • Bamboo is breathable and thermo-regulating. With a high absorbency rate, it wicks moisture away while the natural fiber allows the transfer of air for ultimate comfort.
  • We promote bamboo’s natural color without harsh dyes. We only use natural dyes in our products.

Certification

  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100 – 2010+
  • Meets Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) requirements
  • Organic Crops Improvement Association International (OCIA) has certified the farms that produce the bamboo we use as organic and wild.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and support biologically diverse agriculture.
